POM DANCE

Pom squads dance with their poms to showcase precise and tight arm motions as well as technical dance skills (such as jumps, turns, and leaps), and various other types of dance including hip hop, jazz, and kick lines. Pom squads perform for crowds at sporting events such as basketball and football games. Usually their routines are done during half time, but they also may perform before or after games.

Pom—which is a form of athletic dance—is also a highly competitive sport. Middle school, high school, collegiate, and all-star teams compete on local, regional, state, national, and international levels. Competitive Poms is done with teams of 6 to 45 people. Teams are judged on a number of criteria including form, team unison, showmanship, precision of motions, jumps, leaps, turns, choreography, enthusiasm, with an emphasis on the visual use of the poms.
